WHAT IS DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING?
Taking your traditional scrapbooking to your computer using all digital elements (digital papers, digital embellishments, templates, etc.) and photo/graphics editing software. It is fun and easy and SO CONVENIENT!!! No mess, no stress! Everything is tucked away so neatly on your hard-drive!
WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?
For Starters you need 2 basic things:
-
A photo editing program: something like Adobe Photoshop (PS), Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE), Jasc Paint Shop Pro (PSP), Microsoft Digital Image Pro (DIP), Ulead Photo Impact (PI), Corel Draw or any kind of program that supports .png files & layers.
-
At least 256 MB RAM on your computer operating system. (obviously the more the better)
HOW TO UNZIP A FILE:
1. If you have an older OS (before windows service pack 2):
You will need WinZip or some other software that will allow you to 'unzip' these files. If you don't already have it, you can download it here www.winzip.com
2. Windows Vista or XP with service pack 2:
Mac users, double click on your zipped file.
PC users, Once you've downloaded a zipped file (I usually download them to my desktop) Right click on it and select EXTRACT ALL.
This opens the Extraction Wizard. Click NEXT.
You now choose where to create your new folder and what to name it. It is best to create a folder in your DOCTUMENTS for your Digital Scrapbooking Stuff. That way you can keep all of your kits, pages ect together.
Click NEXT.
Click FINISH. A new folder will appear where you chose to save it. Open folder check that all of your elements are there and then you can delete the Zip file you downloaded off your desktop.
HOW DO I PRINT MY LAYOUTS?
There are many choices to print your finished pages so you can find the one that is best for you:
-
ONLINE SOURCES: GREAT WAY TO PRINT YOUR PAGES IF YOU PREFER 12X12 LARGE FORMAT LAYOUTS.There are many online labs that can print out your pages in various sizes & various photo papers. Professional printing can assure you it is acid free and will last years. You can upload your photos from your computer, select the size, color, papers & you'll have them delivered to you door in no time.
-
LOCAL PHOTO LABS: You can have them printed at local labs or copy centers as well. (i.e. Kinko's, Costco, Sam's, etc.)
-
HOME PRINTERS: You can print your pages at home even if you do not have a large format printer. You can print them in the more popular 8x8 or 81/2x11 sizes. Set your printer on the best setting and print as you would a photograph.
-
COFFE TABLE BOOKS: There are companies out there that can take your files & print them in a beautiful bound book. Wonderful heirlooms!
